Byurakan
The location of the Astrophysical Observatory of the Armenian Academy of Sciences. It is situated 40 kilometres 25 miles to the north of Yerevan at an altitude of 1,500 metres 5,000 feet, where it was founded in 1946 on the initiative of V. Ambartsumian. The main instrument at the observatory is a 2.6-metre 100-inch reflector.
