National Optical Astronomy Observatories
An organization formed in the USA in 1984 to bring under one administration the national facilities for optical astronomy at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory and the National Solar Observatory. NOAO is also responsible for the operation of the WIYN Telescope at Kitt Peak, and the US contribution to the international Gemini 8-meter Telescopes project. It is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy AURA, Inc., under contract to the National Science Foundation.
