| Near-Earth Asteroid Rendezvous Mission |
A NASA mission, launched on 17 February 1996, to rendezvous with the asteroid Eros in January 1999. It is intended that the spacecraft will orbit around Eros, enabling it to study the asteroid for a period of about one year, from distances as close as 24 km 15 miles. On the way, it flew past asteroid 253 Mathilde in June 1997.
