Very Large Telescope Vlt	The European Southern Observatory’s set of four, linked 8-metre 300-inch telescopes located at Paranal Observatory in Chile. The light-gathering power of the four telescopes together is equivalent to that of a mirror 16 metres 52 feet in diameter. Construction work began in late 1988. The first telescope was finished in 1997 and final completion of all four is scheduled for 2001. The technology employed is the same as for the New Technology Telescope.
