Wei Chengjie at the Institute of Remote Sensing Application at the Chinese Academy of Sciences has confirmed that the Great Wall of China is visible from space. Chengjie has analyzed photographs taken in February from the International Space Station and confirmed that one of the visible lines is the Great Wall.

Two years ago, Yang Liwei, China’s first taikonaut, said that he was unable to spot the Great Wall when he was in orbit. Education officials had called for school textbooks to be altered after Yang admitted that he could not see the wall.
