NASA says that a plume of debris has been spotted at the site of the LCROSS mission's impact on the Moon.

The LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) spacecraft recorded images of debris being ejected from the Moon, up to about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles in space), after the Centaur upper stage rocket crashed into the Moon.

NASA scientists are analyzing the images.

They are hoping that by studying the composition of the dust, they will learn if there are significant amounts of water on the Moon.
