As of July 16, 2010, Xtraordinary Adventures and RocketShip Tours, the general sales agent for XCOR Aerospace, are taking reservations for suborbital space flights aboard XCOR's Lynx spacecraft. With this offer, the level of competition in the space tourism industry has increased. The cost of a ticket for a flight on the Lynx is $95,000, a great bargain compared to the cost of suborbital flights offered by Space Adventures and Virgin Galactic. Space Adventures' ticket price is $102,000, and Virgin Galactic's is $200,000. Space tourists who purchase XCOR's package will first spend some time at an Arizona resort, where they will receive a medical screening , take part in a training session that lasts for four day and then spend an additional two days being briefed in preparation for the flight. The experience culminates in the flight to suborbital space. After taking off from a runway, the Lynx, which is powered by four rocket engines that operate independently of each other, will fly to suborbital space and then return to the site of liftoff. Space tourists must make a $20,000 deposit in order to hold a reservation. The Lynx's first flight with tourists onboard is expected to take place at the beginning of 2012, after test flights have been made. Xtraordinary Adventures is a Boca Raton, Florida-based limited liability company that was founded by Mitchell J Schultz, a leader in charity fundraising and alternate finance. XCOR Aerospace, a California corporation, specializes in the production of rocket engines, rocket propulsion systems and reusable launch vehicles. Space tourists can begin the process of reserving seats on the flight by going to http://www.xcor.com/contact/ticket.php.
