A total solar eclipse of the Sun will occur on Wednesday, March 29, 2006. The total eclipse, which represents the path of the Moon’s umbral shadow, will begin in Brazil, then extend across the Atlantic, northern Africa and central Asia, ending at sunset in western Mongolia.

The duration of totality will be less than 2 minutes near the sunrise and sunset limits. At the moment of greatest eclipse in Libya, it will be 4 minutes and 7 seconds. At that moment, the path of totality will be 180 kilometers wide.

Residents of the northern two thirds of Africa, Europe and central Asia will be able to view a partial eclipse within the broader path of the Moon’s penumbral shadow.
