NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope has found evidence of water on an extrasolar gas giant.
Giovanna Tinetti from University College London and her team studied HD 189733b, a planet which orbits a star 64 light years away. HD 189733b is slightly more massive than Jupiter. The team reported in Nature that the planet’s atmosphere is absorbing starlight at wavelengths that are associated with the presence of water.
